Coordinates: 40 ° 7 ′ S , 148 ° 1 ′ E The Flinders Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 1,333 km² and has about 900 inhabitants (2016).
The LGA consists of four archipelagos in the Bass Strait in the northeast of the main Tasman island. Only the three large islands of Flinders Island , Cape Barren Island and Clarke Island of the Furneaux group are inhabited, while the three smaller groups to the northeast, Kent , Hogan and Curtis , are uninhabited . 14 localities and communities are located on the islands: Blue Rocks, Cape Barren Island, Emita, Killiecrankie, Lackrana, Lady Barron, Leeka, Loccota, Lughrata, Memana, Palana, Ranga, Whitemark and Wingaroo. The seat of the council is in Whitemark on Flinders Island, where about 300 residents live (2016).

The Flinders Council has seven members. The mayor, his deputy and five councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Flinders is not divided into districts.
