The rural community Fljótsdalur ( Icelandic Fljótsdalshreppur ) is located in eastern Iceland in the Austurland region .

It is one of the few communities in Iceland that does not have access to the sea. On January 1, 2019, the community had 74 residents.

Population development

As in several municipalities in the Austurland region, there was a huge increase in population in the years up to 2006. In 2007, however, there was a significant decrease in population.
