Flor Isava Fonseca

Flor Isava Fonseca (born May 20, 1921 - † July 25, 2020 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan equestrian, tennis and golf player and sports official.

General

Flor Isava Fonseca studied modern languages, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters . In terms of sport, she was active in tennis, golf and equestrian sports (show jumping). In all three sports she was several times Venezuelan national champion. As a show jumper, she took part in events in South America, the USA, Canada, France and Spain. At the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1946 in Barranquilla , she won the silver medal in women's doubles tennis together with Marion Schlageter .

Flor Isava Fonseca was one of the founding members of the Venezuelan Equestrian Federation. From 1962 to 1965 she was its president. From 1964 to 1968 she was a member of the NOC of Venezuela and from 1989 to 1995 she was a sports advisor to the presidents Carlos Andrés Pérez , Octavio Lepage, Ramón José Velásquez and Rafael Caldera .

Activities within the IOC

Flor Isava Fonseca was elected an IOC member in 1981 . Together with the Finnish athlete Pirjo Häggman, she was the first woman to become a member of the IOC. From 1990 to 1994 she was on the board of directors of the IOC, also as one of the first women. For reasons of age, her membership ended in 2001 at the age of 80. From 2002 she was an honorary member.
