Florence LaRue (born February 4, 1944 in Plainfield , New Jersey ) is an American singer and actress , who became known as a member of The Fifth Dimension .

Life

Florence LaRue was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, in 1944, but grew up in Glenside, Pennsylvania . She took dance and violin lessons as a child . After her family moved to Los Angeles , LaRue studied at Los Angeles City College and California State University , where she received her Bachelor of Arts.

In 1966, LaRue began her career as a singer in The Fifth Dimension , of which she became the lead singer. Among other things, she sang the female lead in the group's best-known single, Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In from 1969. In the early 1970s, her bandmate Marilyn McCoo was the group's female lead for several years before she started a solo career in 1975 left and LaRue took this post again.

In addition to her career as a singer, LaRue also worked as an actress. For example, she starred in the film Happy, produced by the Columbia Broadcasting System , alongside Dom DeLuise . She also appeared in the musical Ain't Misbehavin ' on Broadway . Furthermore, she was seen as a guest in several television shows and series.

LaRue still performs with The Fifth Dimension today . The group has been called Florence LaRue & the Fifth Dimension since 2009 . LaRue is married to Laurence P. Kantor for the fifth time. She has one child from a previous marriage to her manager Marc Gordon.
