Florent Willems (born January 8, 1823 in Liège , † October 1905 in Paris - Neuilly ) was a painter .

Life

Willems studied at the Academy in Mechelen , but mostly trained according to old Dutch masters, especially after Gerard ter Borch , Caspar Netscher , Gabriel Metsu etc., to become a genre painter who emphasizes the elegance of the pictorial representation and the careful reproduction of the Fabrics, especially the white satin robes.

In 1844 he exhibited The Visit to the Woman who had recently given birth in the Paris Salon and received a third class medal, a success that contributed to his move to Paris . The paintings Das Stelldichein and The Wasserfahrt were awarded a second class medal in 1846. Even later, Willems moved almost exclusively in the so-called costume genre, for which he borrowed the figures mostly from the 17th century.

In 1878 he received the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Legion of Honor .
