Location of the Floressee

The Floresee ( indones. According to Flores ) extends over about 240,000 km² as part of the Australasian Mediterranean Sea in the South Pacific .

The Floresee borders the Java Sea and the Bali Sea in the west, the Banda Sea in the east, the Sawu Sea in the south, the Makassar Strait in the northwest and the Indian Ocean in the southwest.

The Lesser Sunda Islands with the eponymous islands of Flores and Celebes (Sulawesi) also border the Flores Sea . According to the definition of the International Hydrographic Organization , the border to the Banda Sea runs along the chain of islands to which u. a. the island of Selayar belongs from the northernmost point of Flores' (located in the very east of the island) to the southeastern tip of the south (western) peninsula of Sulawesis - so that the Gulf of Bone , which separates the two southern peninsulas of Sulawesis, belongs to the Banda Sea.
