Florimond Marie van Acker (born April 6, 1859 in Bruges , † March 14, 1940 ), known as Flori van Acker, was a Belgian painter. His repertoire spanned several different genres.

Life

He learned painting at the academies in Antwerp, under Charles Verlat , and in Brussels, under Portales. He is known for the versatility and diversity of his artistic portfolio. His works include religious, historical and genre-specific portraits, landscapes and cityscapes. From 1882 he was regularly represented with works from different genres at exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent. In 1884 he made the painting “The Resurrection of Christ” for the church of Bassevelde . He also painted pictures for the Church of Hollebeke, the Church of Boitshoucke, the Jesuit Church in Bruges, the Church of Harlebeke and the Chapel of the Xavérists in Bruges. In addition to his church painting, he was mainly known and appreciated for his portraits. He painted, among others, the bishop of Bruges de Brabander, the governor of West Flanders, Count Charles d'Ursel and the commander L. Ensor. Another well-known painting that is now in the possession of the Museum of Bruges is his panoramic view of old Bruges. He tried to paint more cityscapes, but he never succeeded in repeating the quality achieved at that time.
