In his colorful and large-format pictures, Pelka combines a variety of elements from flora and fauna, from mythology and art-historical iconography and combines them in a collage-like manner with perspectives of modern architecture, the symbolic language of pictograms, comics and advertising images. In his highly associative figure ensembles, he draws on the fundus of Western art history, such as that of antiquity or the Middle Ages. and puts the quotes in the light of an urban environment and media colourfulness. Fantastic productions are created that hover between fiction , allegorical fables and surrealistic dream images. Above all, the depictions of animals become symbolic carriers of meaning. The frequently recurring gorilla appears in the panoramas as a tragicomically lost governor of man, just as other heroic figures are counteracted with the set pieces of modern life.

With the dissolved composition and only fragmentary - figurative representation, the specific application of material with liquid and solid textures of poured, pounded or peeled paint comes to the fore. Many parts of the picture are created using random techniques and are of an informal nature. The meaning network is often only revealed after a long period of consideration.

In addition to dealing with art history in terms of content, Pelka also makes methodological recourse to linguistics and philosophy. Theories of signs of neostructuralism and strategies of deconstructivism can be read in the diverse, fragmented and newly assembled visual language.

Pelka's pictures are in the collections of the Investitionsbank Berlin, the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin, the collections of the IG Metall (Frankfurt), the America Memorial Library in Berlin and the SØR-Rusche Collection in Oelde.
