Florin Gardoș (born October 29, 1988 in Satu Mare , Satu Mare County ) is a Romanian football player . The central defender has been playing for Southampton FC in the Premier League , the top English division , since summer 2014 .

Career

Gardoș started playing football in his hometown of Satu Mare at the age of nine. After his youth - including at Olimpia Satu Mare - he ended up in 2008 at CS Concordia Chiajna in the Liga II . After two seasons, he moved to Steaua Bucharest in Liga 1 in summer 2010 . At Steaua he became a regular player and rose to the squad of the Romanian national team . With the 2-1 success in the cup final 2011 against Dinamo Bucharest , he won his first title. This was followed two years later by the 2013 championship . He was able to repeat this success a year later .

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season he was transferred to Southampton FC for an estimated six million pounds . At the "Saints" he initially had some difficulties getting used to the rhythm in the Premier League and there was also great competition in the position of central defender. It wasn't until Boxing Day 2014 that he was in the starting line-up for the first time in a league game, but from then on he received more probation opportunities - benefited by Maya Yoshida's absence from the Asian Cup.

National team

In November 2010, national coach Răzvan Lucescu Gardoş called into his squad for the friendly against Italy , but did not use him. On February 8, 2011, he played his first international match against Ukraine at a tournament in Cyprus. He was a regular player until August 2011, before he was only rarely considered in the episode under Lucescu's successor Victor Pițurcă .
