Floyd LeFlore

Floyd LeFlore (* 1940 - September 6, 2014 ) was an American jazz trumpeter and composer .

Live and act

LeFlor's uncle was guitarist Clarence "Bucky" Jarman; he attended Sumner High School, where he played in the school band Mellophone . During his military service 1963-65 he began to play the trumpet; after his release he worked with Lester Bowie and Oliver Lake , but stayed in St. Louis when Bowie moved to Chicago and worked with musicians for the Black Artists Group ; In the early 1970s, recordings were made a. a. with Joseph Bowie , Baikida Carroll , Julius Hemphill , Oliver Lake, Bobo Shaw , Luther Thomas in various loose formations, such as the Solidary Unit, Inc. or the Human Arts Ensemble . 1972/73 he lived in France; then he worked with JD Parran until 1977 , for whom he also composed ( Caterpillar Fish Sign ), as well as with saxophonist John Norment and his own formation with saxophonist Freddie Washington. In 1998 his album City Sidewalk Street Song Suite was created .
