Anti-aircraft missile group 23
The anti-aircraft missile group 23 (FlaRakGrp 23) was an anti-aircraft missile group of the air force of the German armed forces . She was with the staff, the staff and supply squadron as well as the 3rd and 4th squadron in the Max Immelmann barracks in Oberstimm, Upper Bavaria, south of Ingolstadt , the 1st and 2nd squadron were stationed in Roth near Nuremberg in Middle Franconia . It was equipped with the Patriot weapon system . On January 30, 2013 the anti-aircraft missile group 23 was dissolved together with the neighboring unit anti-aircraft missile group 22 in Penzing and the superordinate anti-aircraft missile squadron 5 .
Anti-aircraft missile battalion 23
The FlaRakGrp23 emerged from the anti-aircraft missile battalion 23.
The anti-aircraft missile battalion 23 (FlaRakBtl 23) was an air defense unit that entered service in 1962, was equipped with the main Nike Hercules weapon system and was stationed in Lich, Schöneck, Kemel and Obersayn. Parts of the battalion were active until 1989, when it was completely disbanded in 1993.
Anti-aircraft missile squadron 23
The anti-aircraft missile squadron 23 , which was newly established in 1987, emerged from the FlaRakBtl 23 and was initially subordinated to the anti-aircraft missile command 4, and later to the anti-aircraft missile command 5. The squadron staff were subordinate to six combat squadrons, a staff squadron, a supply squadron and a medical squadron.
The combat squadrons were equipped with the mobile, ground-based long-range anti-aircraft missile system MIM-104 Patriot. From 1988, the headquarters of the squadron was Manching-Oberstimm. The 1st half squadron was assigned to NATO in 1990 and the full squadron was assigned in 1991.

Anti-aircraft missile group 23
As part of a planned reduction in personnel and material, the squadron was downsized and renamed the anti-aircraft missile group 23 (FlaRakGrp 23). Two combat squadrons and the medical team were decommissioned. The locations of the staff and the squadrons were already shown at the beginning.
In 2005, the conversion of the Patriot weapon systems to the latest configuration status Config 3 was completed.
