PHILIAE , [ ˈfiːlˌjaː ], is a rock band founded in 1999 in Hamburg .

history

The rock band Philiae was founded in 1999 by the singer and guitarist Chris Harms (aka Jane Doe) and completed within a few months by the keyboardist Patrick Debus, the guitarist Gidge, the bassist Ace and the drummer Hangman. In the middle of 2000 the band recorded their first demo CD with the title Demolition Christ in Franz Plaza's "HomE-Studio" in Hamburg. Shortly thereafter, Gidge left the band and was replaced by "K" and later by Pinky. After the first concerts, the band fell apart while planning a first album.

Chris Harms separated from the management at the time and decided at the beginning of 2001 to start a new company, together with the new drummer Julien Schmidt. Shortly thereafter, bassist Alex Frank and guitarist John Keffer joined them.

The band quickly developed into an insider tip in the underground of the German rock scene. With their first album Scapegod , which was released in 2003, Philiae were able to reap a lot of advance praise from the relevant trade press. For example, an article by the editor-in-chief of Zillo states that "... PHILIAE would have to grow very quickly if there was still justice in the music industry."

Numerous concerts followed, including the Zillo Festival on the Loreley stage, as well as the first tour through Germany and Denmark in 2004 with the Danish band Salida . During this period Philiae wrote Propaganda on their second album .

At the beginning of 2005, Guido Maria Kober took the place as the new singer of the band after Harms had declared his departure over artistic differences. In addition, the former keyboardist Patrick Debus, who was responsible for the visual implementation of the project since the release of the album Scapegod , was again firmly integrated into the band.

In early 2006, Philiae released an EP called The Dawn of a New Error . In addition to three songs from the following, second album Propaganda , as well as the track Copy, there is also the video for This Is the Dawn of a New Error on the EP, which was created by the band and here in particular Patrick Debus himself. Very good reviews followed again.

Philiae spent the whole of 2006 working on the album Propaganda , which will be released in June 2007 in cooperation with Abandon Records on their own label Philiae Records. The production was almost completely realized by Alex Frank (bassist and one of the songwriters). In the mix, he worked with Olman Viper in his Hertzwerk / nullzwei studios.

Propaganda became the most successful Philiae album to date. In the course of the excellent press, Philiae played concerts across Germany and appeared as the opening act for Jesus on Extasy and Die Krupps, among others .
