Arctic Bay Airport runways, 2010

The Arctic Bay Airport ( IATA code: YAB ; ICAO: CyaB ), is 5.6 km south-east of Arctic Bay , Nunavut , Canada . Nanisivik Airport, about 25 km away, was used for regular operations until January 12, 2010 . On January 13, 2010 First Air moved to the newly expanded Arctic Bay Airport, and operates flights from Arctic Bay to Iqaluit and Resolute Bay . The mayor of Arctic Bay, Niore Iqalukjuak , said that with the relocation of air operations per flight 40 US dollars for the taxi ride can be saved. In addition, the government of Nunavut Territory saves about $ 600,000 annually by eliminating the need to maintain the road year round.

Infrastructure

In 2010 the slope was 457 meters long and was the shortest in all of Nunavut. To the south of this runway, a new landing strip 1199 meters in length was built. The new terminal is on the old runway.
