Coventry Airport is a regional airport in England near the industrial city of Coventry ( West Midlands ) in the center of England. The airport is located in the Baginton parish at 81 m MSL , approximately 0.5 kilometers from Coventry's city limits.
The airport has a 2008 m long, 46 m wide asphalt runway oriented 05/23. A Category I instrument landing system is available for landings in accordance with instrument flight rules ; there is also a DME ground station and a PAPI system. There is a 100 m long grass runway 06/24 south of the main runway and five helipads on the western apron for helicopters . Customs clearance is available on request.
Incidents
- On February 25, 1994, on a British World Airlines (G-OHOT) Viscount 813 on a cargo flight from Edinburgh to Coventry, engines 2, 3 and 4 failed one after the other due to heavy icing, followed by an extensive failure of the electrical system. The attempt to make an emergency landing in Birmingham was unsuccessful, as the machine came about 50 kilometers north of it landed and broke. The flight captain was killed (see also British World Airlines Flight 4272 ) .
- On December 21, 1994, an Air Algérie Boeing 737-200F (7T-VEE) crashed on the way from East Midlands Airport shortly before landing in Coventry , killing all five crew members (see also Air Algérie flight 702P ) .
