The Dodoma airport is the airport of the Tanzanian capital of Dodoma . It is right in the city, about a kilometer north of the city center.

history

Until 2016, the runway had a length of 2042 meters. It was expanded to 2,450 meters in length in 2016 and the names were changed to 09 and 27.

Since the airport cannot be enlarged due to its location in the city, a new airport is planned around twelve kilometers north of Dodoma on the highway to Arusha .

Dodoma Airport is served by the two Tanzanian airlines Air Tanzania and Precision Air . There are daily connections to Dar es Salaam and a weekly flight to Mwanza (as of 2020).

Incidents

There are no incidents recorded in the Aviation Safety Network database for Dodoma Airport. The following events occurred on the flight to and from Dodoma:

  • On February 22, 1992, a BAe 125 aircraft of the Tanzanian government rolled over the runway while taking off in Mbeya and hit concrete blocks and trees. The plane was able to continue its flight to Dodoma.
  • On April 13, 2006, a private Cessna 208 Caravan on the flight from Dodoma to Haydom hit a bad weather front and had to make an emergency landing in a field. Nobody was injured, but the aircraft was badly damaged.
  • On June 1, 2007, both engines failed in a Tanzanian military aircraft on the flight from Kizota to Dodoma, so that the aircraft had to make an emergency landing in a field. None of the thirteen occupants were injured, and the Shorts 330UTT aircraft was damaged.
