The Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport ( IATA code GOZ , ICAO code LBGO ) is a Bulgarian airport in the north of the country. It is 1 kilometer north of Gorna Orjachowiza and 12 kilometers northeast of Veliko Tarnovo , about halfway between the capital Sofia and Varna .

The airport has an ILS as well as VOR - DME and NDB . There is only one taxiway .

There are no regular flight connections (as of December 2011). There are occasional cargo and charter flights, as well as general aviation flights.

history

The airfield was established in 1925 and was mainly used for military purposes until 1948, but also as an alternative airfield for flights between the two largest Bulgarian cities of Sofia and Varna.

In 1948 the third regular flight route in Bulgaria was established on the route Sofia - Gorna Orjachowiza - Sofia.

1969–1973 a new terminal building was built as well as a new runway of 2,450 m length and a taxiway. Airplanes with a landing weight of up to 200 t can land on the runway .

1975–1978 a new check-in and administration building and a new gate were built. The parking area on the apron has been enlarged so that it can accommodate two large aircraft, two medium-sized aircraft and one small aircraft.

In 1992 a new building for air traffic control was built. In 1995 the airfield was declared an international airfield and a border clearance and customs station was set up.
