The Kerry Airport ( IATA : KIR , ICAO : EIKY ; Irish Aerfort Chiarraí ) is a small international commercial airport in the southwest of Ireland .
History, location and transport links
The airport company was founded in 1968 and the airport opened in 1969 with a runway of around 1000 meters. It is 15 km south of Tralee , the capital of County Kerry , and 13 km north of Killarney at Farranfore . It is not far from Killarney National Park and the west coast of Ireland with the Ring of Kerry .
For passengers there are bus connections to Tralee and Killarney with connection to the national bus network of Bus Éireann . The airport has several car rental companies and a taxi stand. Farranfore train station on the Tralee – Mallow railway line is around 2 km from the airport and can be easily reached by taxi or on foot via the new 2007 footpath along the road to Farranfore.
Airlines and Destinations
Scheduled flights to Kerry Airport are currently offered by Ryanair from London-Luton , London-Stansted , Frankfurt-Hahn and Berlin-Schönefeld as well as seasonally from Alicante and Faro . Stobart Air also connects Kerry with the capital Dublin several times a day under the Aer Lingus Regional brand .
