The airport is located east of the Kufra oases .
Airfield features
The tower (TWR) sends and receives on the frequency : 121.9 MHz . The airport has various navigation aids. The non-directional radio beacon (NDB) transmits on the frequency: 317 kHz with the identifier: KFR . The rotating radio beacon (VOR) transmits on frequency : 113.2 MHz with the identifier: KFR . A distance measuring equipment (DME) is present. The location dismissal is 2 ° east / west. (Status: 2006)
According to ASN, there are two known incidents at the airport.
- On August 26, 2008, a Boeing 737-200 of the Sudanese Sun Air with 95 passengers and seven crew members was hijacked here. No inmates were killed. The aircraft was on a Sudanese domestic flight, from Nyala (UYL) to Khartoum (KRT).
- In December 1975 an Antonov 12 B of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines shot over the runway and was irreparably destroyed in the process.
