The Nyingchi-Mainling airport ( Chinese 林芝米林机场 , Pinyin Linzhi Mǐlín Jīchǎng , including: Linzhi Airport , IATA code : LZY , ICAO code : ZUNZ ) is a civilian airport in the People's Republic of China . It is located in Mainling , Nyingchi District , in the Tibet Autonomous Region at 2,949 meters above sea level, surrounded by very high mountains. Its capacity is designed for 120,000 passengers per year.
As there is no instrument landing system due to the location and visual approaches are only possible on less than 100 days a year, the airport is equipped with a GPS landing system based on differential GPS . The first approach with the system took place on September 1, 2006 with an appropriately equipped Boeing 757 .
