At the end of 2008, 52.2% of the voting shares were transferred from the Russian government to the operating company of Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport .

As part of the expansion for the APEC Summit 2012 in Vladivostok, the airport was modernized and expanded. In June 2011, for example, a new runway was put into operation. The airport now has two parallel runways.

In September 2012, the new passenger terminal A went into operation. It is around 3.5 km from the current two older terminals and has a capacity of 1,360 passengers per hour. A railway connection was also built as part of this expansion. This was put into operation on January 10, 2013.
