The Alzate Brianza airport ( it .: Aeroporto di Alzate Brianza “Giancarlo Maestri” ) is located in the northern Italian region of Lombardy , just under 2 km west of Alzate Brianza in the Verzago district. Because of its location, it is also called Verzago Airfield or Verzago-Alzate Brianza Airfield.
Infrastructure and use
The airfield, located at the foot of the Alps, about 40 km north of Milan and 8 km southeast of Como , has a 600 meter long asphalt runway with the 03/21 orientation. An asphalt runway leads from the landing threshold 21 to parking areas, halls and other handling facilities in the northeast corner of the airfield site. The grass areas in the east of the runway are mostly used to park gliders , the areas in the west also serve as a parallel grass runway . The airfield is used for general aviation . Gliding is particularly important . The airfield is operated by the local glider club Aeroclub Volovelistico Lariano (AVL), which also has a flying school there .
history
Today's airfield was acquired by the glider pilots Riccardo and Leonardo Brigliadori in 1967 and an airfield was created there with friends of the Milan glider club AVM until 1969. In 1992 the brothers founded the AVL glider club. In 1997, the Italian glider master Giancarlo Maestri had a fatal accident at the airfield. The airfield is named after him today.
