Oliver Prescott (medic, 1762)
Oliver Prescott (born April 4, 1762 in Groton , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † September 26, 1827 in Newburyport , Massachusetts ) was an American doctor.
Live and act
Oliver Prescott graduated from Harvard University in 1783 and received an Honorary Doctorate in 1814. In 1787 he served as a surgeon for the forces that suppressed the Shays' rebellion . Until 1811 he practiced in Groton (Massachusetts), then in Newburyport .
He became known through a paper he gave in 1813 to the Massachusetts Medical Society on the medical use of ergot .
His father, Oliver Prescott, Sr. , was also a doctor. He was a founding member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
