The Biella airfield ( ital. Aeroporto di Biella-Cerrione ) is an Italian airfield in the north of the Piedmont region . It is located around eight kilometers south of the city of Biella .
Infrastructure and use
The airport is located at the foot of the Alps , between Turin and Milan , a few kilometers north of the A4 motorway . Due to its location, it is being marketed by the airport operator SACE as an alternative to the airports of Turin and Milan. You want to position yourself as a regional airport. So far, the airfield has only been used for general aviation . The airfield has an asphalt runway that is almost 1500 meters long and runs roughly in a north-south direction (16/34). In the northeast is the apron with hangars and handling facilities.
history
On May 17, 1962, the Società Aeroporto di Cerrione (SACE SpA) was founded and began building the airfield. The inauguration took place on October 26, 1968 by the then Transport Minister Oscar Luigi Scalfaro . The airfield initially had a 740 meter long runway, which was brought to its present length in the 1980s. In 1995 there were temporary scheduled flights between Biella and Rome . In 2002, the airfield recorded over 18,000 aircraft movements, ranking fourth in Italy for non-commercial traffic.
