Airspaces
The Meiersberg airfield is severely restricted to the northwest and north due to its proximity to Düsseldorf airport and the associated control zone.
The restriction not only leads to a spatial delimitation in the north and north-west, but also to a height restriction of the airspace 2500 feet (762 meters) through the airspace C above. However, on request, the Düsseldorf East glider sector can be activated by air traffic control Langen is released mostly at 4500 feet (1371 meters). In order to facilitate the approach from the motorized airfield circuit in landing direction 12, an area of the Düsseldorf control zone can be taken from the Düsseldorf control tower upon request and used by the pilots at Meiersberg airfield.
Film location
The German feature film It won't be greener, said the gardener, and flew away was partly shot at the Meiersberg airfield. Meiersberg is not mentioned by name, but serves as a backdrop for a meadow near a small castle near Düsseldorf, where the protagonist lands with his plane. In another scene, the protagonists seek shelter from a rain shower with their aircraft; this meadow is also part of the airfield.
The undeveloped end at starting point 30 was mainly used for this purpose. One of the hangars was also equipped with a blue screen in order to be able to retrospectively equip recordings with a different background.
In the film, many distinctive landscape features from the vicinity of the airfield can still be recognized, which the protagonist overflown on his journey, including some dams in the Bergisches Land , the city of Cologne and the Niederaussem lignite power station .
