The Szczecin-Dąbie airfield is mainly used by sports pilots and is located in the Dąbie district .

history

The planning for an airport in Szczecin began in 1921. First a water airport was considered, which was offered by the nearby harbor. A compromise solution was chosen and construction was planned on the south bank of Dammschen See . In December 1924, the associated Stettin Airport GmbH was founded. From 1926, Deutsche Lufthansa flew to the airport, which was still under construction. In addition to the runway, the site included a workshop, administration building, a terminal building and lounges for travelers and flight personnel. The official opening took place on June 19, 1927. The most important connections were to Berlin and Danzig . In 1934 the airport received a radio set and a tracking transmitter on a 45 m high antenna mast. In 1935 units of the Luftwaffe were stationed here.

After the Second World War , the airport lost all importance with the establishment of the Szczecin-Goleniów Airport .
