The Vercelli airfield ( Italian Aeroporto di Vercelli “Carlo del Prete” ) is an Italian airfield in the Piedmont region . It is located on the southern outskirts of Vercelli .
Infrastructure and use
The airfield located in the Po plain has a grass runway 560 meters long and 23 meters wide with the orientation 09/27. To the north of it runs a parallel taxiway to small asphalt aprons, hangars and other handling facilities in the northeast of the airfield. The airfield is used for general aviation and is operated by the Aero Club Vercelli , which also has a flying school on site . Parachuting is also important .
history
The airfield was opened in 1928 on a plot of land in the Vercelli province and was used for civilian purposes, but it also served as a military alternative airfield . An aviation club and a flight school were founded on site, as was the small aircraft construction company Anonima Vercellese Industria Aeronautica , or AVIA for short, which manufactured small training aircraft . The airfield was named after Carlo del Prete, a military pilot who made several record flights to Africa, South and North America with Francesco De Pinedo and Arturo Ferrarin .
