Folkmar Stoecker

Folkmar Walter Otto Stoecker (born April 2, 1943 in Berlin ) is a former German diplomat .

Life

After graduating from the German School in Rome in 1961, Folkmar Stoecker studied law at the Universities of Marburg and Hamburg and, after completing his legal preparatory service in 1969, passed the second state examination in law.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1970, he worked at the German Embassy in Saigon ( South Vietnam ) (1972–1975) as a consultant for humanitarian aid, at the embassies in Washington, DC (1975–1978), Rome (1983–1985), Warsaw (1990–1994) as press and cultural advisor. At the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn , Stoecker worked from 1978 to 1982 as a consultant in the planning staff, from 1985 to 1988 as deputy head of the public relations department and from 1994 to 1998 as head of the North America department. These functions were supplemented by a delegation to the NATO Defense College in Rome (1982).

In 1998 Stoecker became the ambassador's permanent representative at the German Embassy in Tokyo . From 2002 to 2006 he was German consul general in Milan and from 2006 to 2008 as the successor to Andreas Michaelis German ambassador in Singapore .

Since his retirement in 2008, Stoecker has worked as a program director for the countries of the Near and Middle East as part of the international diplomatic training of the Federal Foreign Office, and since 2009 as a lawyer in an advisory capacity at the law firm GSK Stockmann.

Stoecker is a member of the “ German Society for Foreign Policy ” (DGAP), the “German-Italian Center VILLA VIGONI” (member of the Board of Trustees) and the “Nah- und Mittelostverein e. V. “(NUMOV) (member of the advisory board). He is married and has two daughters.
