Plastic of the Archangel Michael with the defeated devil

The Paris prefect and city planner Baron Haussmann received at the time of Napoléon III. many orders to redesign the city, so larger streets should be built instead of the small medieval alleys and thus a more modern city should be created. In connection with the construction of the Place Saint-Michel, the Fontaine Saint-Michel was built in 1860. Originally, however , the sculpture of the fountain was supposed to represent Napoleon Bonaparte .
