Gabriel Davioud
Gabriel Jean Antoine Davioud [ ɡabʀiˈɛl ʒɑ̃ ɑ̃ˈtwan daˈvju ] (born October 30, 1823 in Paris ; † April 6, 1881 ibid) was a French architect .
Life
He attended the Paris School of Art, École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, and received the second Prix de Rome .
As an architect under Georges-Eugène Haussmann, he built many buildings in Paris, initially the theater of Étampes and other theaters such as the Théâtre du Châtelet . Also known are the Fontaine Saint-Michel and Fontaine de l'Observatoire fountains that he built . He was also involved in the planning of buildings on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the Place de la République .
Since 1855 Davioud built streets and gardens like the Square des Batignolles on behalf of the government , he also beautified many squares and the Bois de Boulogne park . In July 1859 he was commissioned to build the Jardin d'Acclimatation . In 1862 he was made a knight (chevalier) of the Legion of Honor , and in 1878 he was made an officer (officier).
