The Fontainebleau Miami Beach or Fontainebleau Hotel is one of the most famous hotels in Miami Beach . Considered one of the most important buildings in Florida , it was designed by Morris Lapidus and opened in 1954. On December 22, 2008, the Fontainebleau Miami Beach was entered on the National Register of Historic Places .
In the 1950s and 1960s, the hotel was the epitome of luxury and glamorous life. Some scenes from the James Bond film Goldfinger were filmed here; It was also used as a film set for the films Two Strong As A Bear and Police Academy 5 - Mission Miami Beach . Frank Sinatra , Elvis Presley and Jerry Lewis have made guest appearances. In 1977 the 72-year-old high- wire artist Karl Wallenda crossed a 200-meter-long rope to the neighboring Hotel Eden Roc more than 50 meters above the ground.
The hotel was renovated in 2008 for over a billion US dollars and added two buildings.
