Food photography
As food photography is called a photographic image of each food (from English. "Food", dt .:, food, eating ') to entire menu representations or cooking situations.
Applications
This type of photography is used, among other things, for food advertising, the illustration of cookbooks , menus , recipe presentations on the Internet, packaging design and menu boards for system catering . It is mostly about commissioned photography, but artistic approaches are also implemented.

The main requirement of food photography is the staging of a food up to a work of art. Objects can be fruits, beverages, spices or prepared dishes.
Depending on the task, the food and ingredients are arranged and served accordingly. The client sets certain targets, for example working out the freshness of a food. To suggest the freshness, z. B. "refined" a lemonade with condensed water. There are a number of methods of presenting a food product in terms of its aesthetics beyond its natural appearance. Sometimes artificial masses are used for the desired optics, which are not edible at all.
Food design and styling
The genre requires a lot of experience and knowledge, so that sometimes a food styling specialist is also involved in the photo shoot in addition to the photographer .
Food photography in the studio almost always takes place under the aspect of tabletop photography . Experience has shown that the digital reworking takes a large part of the overall order.
Food design also includes the presentation, preparation and illustration of food for advertising purposes . Since real food does not look fresh long enough under the lamplight of the photographer or, for example, a beer foam collapses too quickly, aids are used in the advertising representation of food to make the food and prepared dishes appear fresh or freshly served. Because of the linguistic proximity to the product development process described above, the term food styling is increasingly being used .
