Forêt de Brotonne
The Forêt de Brotonne is a French state forest. It is located in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy , about 30 kilometers west of Rouen . The forest is part of the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Nature Park and is located on the left bank of the Seine , where it is largely enclosed by a meander of the river extending to the north. The following places border the forest:
- Saint-Nicolas-de-Bliquetuit in the north,
- La Mailleraye-sur-Seine in the east,
- Hauville in the southeast,
- Bourneville to the southwest and
- Vatteville-la-Rue to the north-west.
The border with the Eure department runs along the southern edge of the forest .
history
In the early Middle Ages it was a hunting area rich in game and known as Forêt d'Arelaune or Arèle . In the year 604, Bertoald , the Burgundian house meier , wanted to go hunting here, but was intercepted by Merowech, the son of the Neustrian king Chlothar II .
