Forckestrasse

The Forckestraße is one of the main urban roads in the city of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is the connecting road between Salzbergstraße and Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße and relieves the inner-city traffic. At the same time, Forckestrasse is a one-way street and part of Bundesstrasse 244 .

history

The name Forckestrasse goes back to the pharmacist Arnold Forcke, who owned a large garden here, below the Lindenberg, which he made available to the city of Wernigerode free of charge on the condition that an educational institution for neglected children be established here. The city did not adhere to it, but divided the garden into plots that were sold to the financially well-off to build villas. The proceeds went to the Forcke Foundation.

The street was laid out at the end of the 19th century when the city was expanded.
