The Forest Laboratories LLC is a pharmaceutical company from the United States , based in New York City . The company was founded in 1954 by Hans Lowey .

Forest Laboratories is known, among other things, for selling European pharmaceuticals in the United States. One of the best-selling products is the antidepressant citalopram ( Celexa ® ), the sale of which at times made up 70% of sales.

2014 was Forest Laboratories, Inc. for 25 billion US dollars of Actavis acquired and subsequently renamed Forest Laboratories LLC.

The company is not to be confused with the state agency "Forest Products Laboratory" in the United States.
