The PC 800 is a touring motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer Honda . The identifier PC stands for Pacific Coast . The internal factory code is RC 34. From 1989 to 1998 Honda ran the Pacific Coast in the program. This was specially developed by Honda Research America for the American market.

concept

The touring machine was located in the Honda vehicle program between the NT 650 V Deauville (two-cylinder, 650 cm³ displacement) and the Honda ST 1100 Pan European (four-cylinder, 1100 or, more recently, 1300 cm³) (but there was no overlap between Deauville and Pacific Coast) . It can comfortably seat two people. Both models mentioned above have the very upright sitting posture (knee angle 90 degrees or more for a 1.85 m long driver). The water-cooled three-valve V2 comes from the large engine family that was introduced in the 1980s with the VT 500, and its derivatives are among others. a. also prove to be very reliable in Révere, NTV, Deauville, Africa Twin and Transalp. The principle of the opening trunk, which is usually found on scooters, is unusual in motorcycle construction.

Like other models not offered by Honda Germany, the machine was only available here through free importers. The model was initially only seen in France and the Netherlands. The international sales figures did not satisfy Honda and in Germany this "anti-naked bike" was too far past the taste of the motorcycle customer at the beginning of the 1990s, which is why it was withdrawn from the range in 1998 without a successor.

technology

The liquid-cooled two-cylinder engine produced from 800 cc a nominal power of 42 kW (57 hp) and a maximum torque of 65.7 Nm at a speed of 5500 min -1 . The transversely installed V-engine has a cylinder angle of 45 degrees. The two cylinders have a bore of 79.5 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 80.6 mm.

criticism

“The design of the PC 800 looks like that of a Pan European at the front , from the side it is reminiscent of a Gold Wing, and the rear could come from the Helix luxury scooter . Everything on the Pacific Coast is hidden behind plastic, even the handlebars are covered in a thick, angular plastic cover. [...] The chassis is comfortably tuned, but dampened a bit too weakly. This is particularly noticeable in undulating corners. Here the PC 800 lurches slightly around the vertical axis. The straight-line stability is also not without faults and blame: The American Honda looks a little restless, but without getting too dubious. "
