Forgotton Anne is a Jump 'n' Run - Adventure in the year 2018 , which by Through Line Games develops and by Square Enix for Microsoft Windows , Mac OS PlayStation 4 , Xbox One and Nintendo switch has been released.

Forgotton Anne takes place in a fictional world called Forgotten Lands or World of the Forgotten , a magical parallel universe in which lost objects are brought to life and hope that one day they will be remembered and returned to the real world. You yourself are depicted anthropomorphically .
The player controls the young Anne, who lives in this world with her foster father Bonku, although people actually have no business there. But since she was an abandoned baby and Bonku an aging watchmaker, they too were forgotten by human society. Bonku therefore tries to develop a procedure that will bring them back into the human world and that Anne will help her with. She also grows up to be a young woman and advocates law and order in the world of the forgotten, and in the process comes across a rebel group who oppose Bonku's plans because they can realize themselves in their own world while they do it lose their soul in the real world.
Gameplay
The game is played in a 2D side scroller platform view, in which the player can move the title character Anne. So that the player can also move in the third dimension, he must use doors or stairs to get to other rooms or levels. In order to advance in the game, the player must solve puzzles and perform tasks by exploring the game world, conducting dialogues, collecting clues and recognizing connections. The player also has the special energy called anima available, which he can use to control objects. In the course of the game, the player unlocks additional skills.
Development and publication
The game uses a hand-drawn anime - animated graphics , which by the Japanese animation studio Ghibli has been developed which is known for several award-winning anime movies. The music in the game was played by the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. As Easter Egg in a room of Theater levels are animated films of Robert Storm Petersen shown.
The game was released on May 15, 2018 for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It was also released for the Nintendo Switch on November 9, 2018.

Since launch , Forgotton Anne has received mostly positive reviews on Metacritic . Above all, the detailed, fairytale-like and emotional atmosphere in the game was praised, which is created by the hand-drawn, graphically appealing animations, the characters, the mix of platformer and adventure as well as the music. The action, which also depends on the decisions of the player, is also praised. The animation style is reminiscent of the anime series and cartoons of the 1990s. As in some Ghibli films, a strong young woman is also used here. The supporting characters are overdrawn, but mostly have deeper background stories. By depicting the forgotten objects, consumer criticism is being exercised in modern society.
The game was nominated for the 9th Hollywood Music in Media Awards for music and for "Best Storytelling" at the Golden Joystick Awards 2018.
