Forreston (until about 1895 Chambers Creek ) is an unincorporated community in Ellis County in the state of Texas in the United States .

location

Forreston is on US Route 77 , approximately 15 kilometers south of Waxahachie . Surrounding towns and villages are Waxahachie in the north, Nash in the east, Avalon in the southeast, Italy in the south, Bell Branch in the west and Five Points in the northwest. Immediately west of Forreston is Interstate Highway 35E , to which Forreston is connected with a junction.

The settlement was founded in 1843 by William R. Howe, who is considered the first settler in the area of ​​Ellis County. This makes Forreston the oldest settlement in Ellis County. In the mid-1840s, the village was named Chambers Creek after General Thomas J. Chambers . In 1846 Chambers Creek received a post office. The place was initially in Robertson County and was from 1846 to 1848 the administrative seat ( county seat ) of the Robertson County formed Navarro County , this status lost Chambers Creek to the newly founded city of Corsicana . Construction of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad reached the village in the 1890s . At that time there was already a church, two Egrenier machines and several shops. In the mid-1890s, Chambers Creek was renamed Forreston. The namesake was Carr Forreston, who was the first head of the local post office.

In 1904 Forreston had just over 200 residents. Before 1914, Forreston High School was established. In the 1920s, Forreston served as a church and school community for the surrounding farms and as a trading point for cotton . In the 1940s, the population in Forreston peaked at just under 340, and since then the population has fallen to just under 200 at the turn of the millennium. The population of Forreston is not officially recorded. In 1969, the school district of Forreston was dissolved, the place has since been part of the Waxahachie Independent School District.

The actor Denver Pyle (1920–1997) was buried in an unmarked grave in Forreston Cemetery.
