Research institute for vocational training

The Research Institute for Company Education (f-bb) works in the field of application-oriented vocational training research . It was founded in 2003 and currently employs around 110 people at five locations. This makes the f-bb (legal form: non-profit GmbH ) one of the major non-university institutions for vocational training research in Germany. It is headquartered in Nuremberg with offices in Berlin , Chemnitz , Magdeburg and Potsdam . The management consists of Susanne Kretschmer and Iris Pfeiffer.

The f-bb carries out empirical surveys, expertises and design projects and accompanies projects and programs scientifically. His focus is on the following areas: determining and developing professional skills, transitions and permeability of the vocational training system, migration and the labor market, digitization and its impact on professions, international vocational training, inclusion and vocational rehabilitation as well as innovations in vocational training. It also runs the Master’s degree in Personnel and Organization together with the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg . The research projects are largely funded by departmental research , i. H. by federal and state ministries and the European Commission , as well as by companies, associations and other organizations.

The institute publishes project results through specialist conferences, on its own homepage, in thematic Internet portals and in specialist publications. There are two series of publications: "Economy and Education" and "Guide for Educational Practice".

Among other things, the f-bb is a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Berufsbildungsforschungsnetz (AGBFN), in the working group SchuleWirtschaft as well as in the National Forum for Advice and Education, Profession and Employment.

Since January 2011 the f-bb has been operating the specialist department for advice and qualification in the “ Integration through qualification (IQ)” network. The aim of the project is to improve the labor market integration of people with a migration background. Another project with a long time horizon is the DQR office. As part of the development of the German Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (DQR) , the f-bb has been providing various support services since 2007. In this context, the “Jobstarter - Regional Office South” project, which has been running since 2006, should also be mentioned. The aim is to establish permanent and sustainable support structures for SMEs in the region in order to integrate young people into training.
