The east-west forum Gut Gödelitz e. V. is an association founded in 1998 with its headquarters in Gödelitz in the town of Döbeln in the Saxon district of Central Saxony . The association was founded by Axel Schmidt-Gödelitz (* 1942) who worked as a journalist after studying economics and political science at the Free University of Berlin . After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1992, he bought the property back for his family from the Treuhandanstalt and founded the forum there in 1998. The old buildings were converted accordingly, in 2006 a seminar and conference center was opened in the old sheep farm, which can accommodate up to 300 people.

According to the association's statutes (quote):

“It is the association's task to hold lectures, symposia, roundtables and cultural events

  • To convey knowledge and understanding of the nature and functioning of the social democratic constitutional state;
  • to promote the growing together between East and West Germany as well as between East and West Europe by deepening the understanding of the other historical development, of the lived biographies, of the political, economic, social and cultural problems and the interests connected with them;
  • to contribute to preserving internal and external peace in Germany, Europe and the world. "
