Photo history , subtitled contributions to the history and aesthetics of photography , is a German-language specialist journal that deals with the subjects of photography and society . The magazine was founded in 1981 by Timm Starl in Frankfurt am Main . It has been published by Anton Holzer in Vienna since 2001 .
It is published quarterly by Jonas Verlag and has around 80 pages each. Each issue contains four to six longer scientific articles by recognized authors, numerous book, catalog and exhibition reviews as well as information on recent scientific research in the field of photography history.
