Heinrich August Jäschke

Heinrich August Jäschke (born May 17, 1817 in Herrnhut ; † September 24, 1883 ) was a German missionary , linguist and orientalist .

Life

Heinrich August Jäschke worked from 1857 to 1868 as a missionary of the Moravian Brethren in Kyelang (in the district of Lahaul and Spiti , an area in northern India in which a Tibetan dialect is spoken) and made a special contribution to researching the Tibetan language . He provided the Tibetan Bible translation and participated in the editing and translation of Tibetan texts.
