Foyn Island ( Norwegian Foynøya ) is an island in the Ross Sea off the Borchgrevink coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . After Possession Island, it is the second largest island in the group of Possession Islands southeast of the Adare Peninsula .
Participants in the Norwegian Antarctic expedition with the ship Antarctic (1894–1895) named the island after the Norwegian entrepreneur Svend Foyn (1809–1894), the main sponsor of this research trip . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the name to English in 1962.
