Svend Foyn (born July 9, 1809 in Tønsberg , Norway , † November 29, 1894 in Nøtterøy , Norway) was a Norwegian whaling and shipping magnate. He was a pioneer for new methods of whale hunting and processing and, among other things, introduced the modern harpoon cannon. It is honor to Spitsbergen belonging island Foynøya that Svend-Foyn Glacier on the island of Jan Mayen , the Foyn Island off the coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land , the Foyn Point , a cape on the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula , and also located there Foyn coast named.
