The Svend Foyn Glacier ( Norwegian Svend Foynbreen ) is an outlet glacier on the island of Jan Mayen, which is politically part of Norway . It was named after the Norwegian whaling magnate Svend Foyn by Henrik Mohn , the leader of the Norwegian North Sea Expedition 1876–1878 .
The Svend Foyn Glacier begins in the northern part of the Beerenberg ice cap . On the flank of this northernmost active volcano on earth, it still flows in the upper area directly on the Kjerulf glacier , in the lower part of it separated by the Kvalnosa ridge to the north coast of the island, where after 4.6 km over an icefall it reaches the beach at high tide also reached the sea. The Svend Foyn Glacier is Jan Mayen's most active glacier after the Weyprecht and Kjerulf glaciers. It is the only Jan Mayen glacier that forms ogives .
