The Miss Maria monument is located in the district town of Jever and is dedicated to Maria von Jever , the last regent of the Jever rule .

The memorial was built in a central location in Jever within sight of Jever Castle at the intersection of Schlossstrasse and Fräulein-Marien-Strasse. The lower part of the monument is made up of two stone benches, each with a lion sculpture at each end. In the middle between the benches is the base on which a plaque is attached. This shows the city arms of Jever and the following text:

The statue of Maria von Jever stands on this pedestal . This is cast from bronze and weighs 550 kilograms. With a height of 2.20 meters, the statue is a larger-than-life image of the regent. In her right hand Maria is holding the certificate conferring city ​​rights on Jever, which was issued in 1536 during the reign of Mary, the left hand is on the head of one of Maria's hunting dogs . The orientation of the statue ensures that Maria looks at the Jever Castle, which she had significantly expanded during her reign.

Building history

Maria von Jever enjoys constant veneration as one of the defining figures in the history of Jever - also known today as Marienstadt . The memorial commissioned on the occasion of her 400th birthday in 1900 was realized by the German sculptor Harro Magnussen . The casting took place in the Gladenbeck bronze foundry in Berlin-Friedrichshagen . The statue was solemnly unveiled in September 1899.
