The Fröhlich-Hof is an urban residential complex in Vienna - Meidling at Malfattigasse 1–5. It is enclosed by Arndtstrasse, Fockygasse and Oppelgasse.
history
The Fröhlich-Hof is a typical social housing of the municipality of Vienna for the Red Vienna of the interwar period. It was built in 1928-29 according to plans by Engelbert Mang . It was named after Katharina Fröhlich , the "eternal bride" of Franz Grillparzer , who in 1872 left the estate of the poet to the municipality of Vienna.
Building description
The now listed ( list entry ) complex comprises 149 apartments on 11 stairs and a courtyard (U-shape) closed on three sides. The style is sober and corresponds to the New Objectivity . In the middle of the courtyard is a fountain by Stanislaus Plihal from 1929, which shows four putti carrying the globe .
