Brauhaus Früh em Veedel

The Brauhaus Früh em Veedel at Chlodwigplatz 28 is a traditional restaurant and former schnapps distillery in Cologne's Severinsviertel . The three-storey building, built in 1885/1886 and provided with brick facades , has been a listed building since February 28, 1985 . It is registered as a monument of the Neustadt-Süd district under no .: 2802 in the list of monuments.

Since the construction of the neo-Gothic building in place of the medieval city wall, which was laid down in 1880, schnapps and liqueurs have been distilled in the house on Chlodwigplatz . Before the Früh brewery took over the restaurant, it was owned by the Hermann family until 1979, who had run the distillery and pub here for several generations. Even today, Früh produces its own schnapps and liqueurs that go back to the tradition of the distillery: Alter Ulan , Deck and Dönn as well as Stippeföttchen , a peppermint liqueur. In Cologne parlance, the Veedelsfrüh is also known as the Invalidendom, based on the Parisian model, as veterans used to prefer to meet there.

Todays situation

Even under the management of the Cölner Hofbräu P. Josef Früh KG , the historic ambience of the restaurant in the rustic Cologne brewery style has been preserved since the takeover in 1979; a historic still as well as a large number of murals and old photos are also reminiscent of the old days when the traditional brewery was still operated as a schnapps distillery. The guests now have 80 seats in the dining room, an outside terrace with 40 seats and a large, separate bar area with benches.

For the morning Kölsch on tap , traditional, hearty dishes from the regional Rhenish cuisine are offered in a Cologne Veedels atmosphere .
