The Fraa Rauscher fountain

The Fraa Rauscher is a Frankfurt city original .

Surname

Fraa (Südhess. For woman ) Rauscher contains an allusion to the young, still fermenting apple wine , which is particularly popular in Sachsenhausen during the season , which not only "rustles" in the glass, but can also cause severe diarrhea when consumed excessively. It is not known whether this was her real name or a nickname.

Bump incident

Ms. Rauscher is said to have lived in Frankfurt's Klappergass in the 19th century. Tradition reports that on a Sunday afternoon, Fraa Rauscher was found lying on the street with a bump on her head and was mocked by boys. An overzealous Prussian police officer used this incident as an opportunity to meticulously take down the facts and use them to construct a criminal suspicion and to determine whether the bump was caused by her husband or by the loss of balance due to increased cider consumption. The ridiculously minor incident is said to have even been mentioned in the newspaper's police report the following day , which is said to have caused general amusement at the new force of law in Frankfurt.

song

This curious story about the zeal for officials was presented in poetry by the Frankfurt graphic artist Kurt Eugen Strouhs in the former Mainz wine tavern and later set to music by the editor and writer Norbert Bruchhäuser (Bert Häuser). Today it is probably the most famous Frankfurt abel song.

The famous refrain is:

Fraa Rauscher from the Klappergass, the hot bump on the egg,
The police will clarify whether it's from Rauscher, whether it's from Alde.
