Fraiburgo in Santa Catarina |
Fraiburgo , officially Município de Fraiburgo , is a city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil . It has 34,553 inhabitants (as of 2010) and an area of 547.854 km² . The city is largely shaped by European immigrants, especially Germans and Italians.
The city is 53 kilometers from Caçador and has its own local radio station.
history
The founding date is 1937, when the Alsatian brothers Rene and Arnoldo Frey established the Fazendas Liberata and Buitá Verde in the western area of the Planalto Serrano . The area first became the Liberata district, which belonged to the Curitibanos municipality . On December 20, 1961, the district was raised together with parts from Videira to the municipal city Município de Fraiburgo .
economy
The Frey brothers set up a sawmill in Fraiburgo in 1919. After extensive deforestation, the region turned to apple cultivation and became an important cultivation area ( Terra da Maçã in Portuguese ). For example, Agrícola Fraiburgo, Brazil's largest producer of apples and apple juice concentrate, is based here.
The formerly dense forests of the region consisted predominantly of Brazilian walnuts, cedars, cinnamon trees, mate bushes and lush Brazilian pines. Despite the ruthless deforestation in recent decades, these forests continue to characterize the typical landscape of southern Brazil.
