Frailea buiningiana is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea buiningiana grows individually with cylindrical bodies that are densely thorny at the apex. The bodies reach heights of 6 to 10 centimeters with a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The 24 to 26 ribs are low and divided into humps. The circular areoles on it are brownish. The 3 reddish brown central spines are protruding, straight, not piercing and up to 3 millimeters long. The 12 to 15 translucent white radial spines interlock, are straight and up to 2 millimeters long.

The whitish yellow flowers are up to 2.5 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 1.5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Frailea buiningiana is common in Brazil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul . The first description was published in 1997 by Karl-Heinz Prestlé .
